El Gitano, means in Spanish: Gypsy.

And Gypsies are still considered as the native travelers. In reality, they are more often settled, but the tradition of possessing one caravan pulled with the horses or tractor is absolutely vital for them. Everything can happen, and Gypsies are very specialized in leaving fast the hostile places. Their homes are built on the wheels. Their goods are reduced to the necessary minimum, and in a few instants their camps can be installed, as like they can disappear quickly. Theirs lifestyle had firstly become an inspiration for my own. Nextly, after many thousands of the kilometers I decided to share my travel experience to encourage everyone who feels a call of adventure, but who is uncertain concerning a realization of such a plan. Actually it is very easy...if you have no money and no need to make enough of them to travel, but you feel like to see how huge is the world, just build a bicycle, attach to it a sleeping bag, a hammock, a tarp, tools set, coffee maker , a few tee-shirts, all necessary minimum you need and jump on it and to ride for your freedom.

One very important aspect of life I have discovered on the roads, is that if you need to find a job, you will always succeed. And travelling offers much, huge, much more of the opportunities to make daily money than settled situation.

In my case, travel had become a center of my interests. When I feel bad, I ride a thousand kilometers and I feel much better, so easy it is...for me. But my girlfriend can't sleep in the conditions I am used to, so we have bought a van, and we have transformed it in a Gypsy Caravan. This van is honestly perfect to travel, but long term living in is not the best idea. Whatever, for the next few thousands of the kilometers it will carry our king-size bed, our kitchen, our living room and our shower cabin. This van can ride everywhere, it is economic ,simple and powerful. We have recycled it, we have spent the months to bring it in good shape, and we have riding with to our favorite beaches. My existence is happening on the roads, they are my only country. To celebrate it and sustain it I organized all necessary equipment to live, to enjoy and to produce.

The important items in my baggage are the tools. Without them, I couldn't fix my vehicles, or built a shelter in a deep forest, where I go to find peace and take the pictures I need to illustrate the stories I write. So, the tools I don't separate with are cameras. Actually I can travel on my feet, not real need of bicycle and the tools to fix anything, but my existence without one photo camera, a pen and book to write is just not possible. And only after packing these two survival sets, I put into my travel bag one hammock, a tarp, a few tee-shirts and tooth brush. A coffee maker is not a tool, or any indispensable everyday life object, it is a companion for the best and the worse. One of the best travels I did with one old school scooter. It was one 50cc old Vespa, which gave to me a lot, really a lot of fun at very low cost. The only inconvenience of this motored option is that it can be noisy and stinky terribly when it's not properly set up. But once the mechanics are rolling well, it is a pure pleasure to cross the world with maximum sixty kilometers per hour and less than three liters of gasoline for a hundred km.

Vespa scooters are famous for their robustness and capacity to carry a heavy stuff. They are reliable and extremely functional... I mean here only about old models, full still and aluminum, quite loud engines two strokes and possible very stinky fragrance left behind, but...it goes absolutely everywhere. I climbed the rocky paths in the mountains with one Vespa. It managed. It is very possible to ride over three hundred kilometers per day, a tank can contain around six liters of gasoline, the minimalist baggage adds more charm to all. It is a way of travelling on another level. If you have a family, a job to pay the credits, rents and insurances, don't try to rock around with one Vespa. It is possible you will not come back soon as you planned, so rock'n'roll can be riding this little Italian miracle of motorized vehicles. It can be addictive, or revolutionary. In my case...it was a next adventure. I have experienced a revolution when I travelled a cross Europe with one original American cruiser bicycle, huge, beautiful and powerful.

It was amazing, and a revolution has been done. It was the most comfortable, the cheapest and my first totally healthy travel. I have eaten a lot of bananas, muesli and chocolate. I have smoked the big joints in a full sun, pedaling and pulling a small chariot. I was pedaling all, but really all, long days. From very early morning till the last lights of evening, I was sitting on the large sit, handling one large steering bar, shifting three gears,  listening to psychedelic rock and pedaling softly during thousands of the kilometers. It was the best bicycle I did ride till the last one which I have built, ride from North Germany to South Spain, and sold it well. My last Cruiser was built on one simple but robust alloy frame, made in Germany. Two excellent 29 inches wheels I have bought cheap from one trashed bicycle, quite good Shimano Nexus eight speeds hub...large tires, large seat and very large handle bar. In total, the bicycle costed around four hundred euros, and it rides over two thousands kilometers in all kind of conditions. A cross the fields, the forests, the mountains and the beaches.

It wasn't the best ride, because of the environment, but it was a decisive journey to create elgitano.pro and to collect the data's necessary to construct soon one long distance travel king. But specially it was an experience more to confirm definitely my personal choices... I am not a good neighbor, I am in love with road, with my girlfriend and with nature where we hide from noisy civilizations.
